SELECT CASE STUDIES
Our work spans countries, sectors, and innovative solutions that enable governments, investors, and companies to turn climate ambition into real-world outcomes. Below are examples of how we’ve supported our partners in advancing their climate transition goals.
Scaling Climate Tagging in Trade & Supply Chain Finance: We supported a multilateral financial institution in strengthening its climate tagging framework across a network of nearly 100 partner banks. Our work included refining eligibility criteria, building capacity through targeted training, streamlining data collection processes, and aligning the framework with international methodologies for climate finance tracking. The updated framework enabled more consistent identification of climate-aligned transactions, especially in hard-to-track value chains across Asia.
Energy Transition & Just Transition Planning: We partnered with public and private stakeholders to design energy transition strategies that balance climate goals with social and economic resilience. Our work focused on supporting the phase-out or repurposing of high-emissions assets, such as coal-fired power plants while identifying pathways to scale renewable energy and low-carbon infrastructure. In parallel, we conducted just transition diagnostics to assess the potential impact on workers, supply chains, and local economies. Based on this, we developed policy and financing recommendations to enable inclusive and equitable transitions, including worker reskilling, livelihood restoration, and community engagement strategies. Our approach emphasized long-term planning, cross-sector dialogue, and alignment with sustainable development priorities.
Paris Agreement Alignment of Financial Intermediaries: We developed a practical Paris Agreement alignment framework for a multilateral finance institution to ensure all trade and supply chain finance products contribute to low-carbon development pathways. The methodology focused on counterparty- and sector-level risk assessment, incorporating global principles for financial intermediaries and alignment screening, ensuring usability within operational constraints.
Decarbonization Pathways for Industrial Asset Owners: We supported large industrial asset owners in identifying and evaluating decarbonization opportunities across energy-intensive operations. Our work involved conducting technical and financial assessments of alternatives to fossil fuel-based thermal energy, including electrification, renewable heat solutions, and fuel switching options such as bioenergy and hydrogen. We developed tailored transition roadmaps aligned with each company's climate targets, regulatory context, and investment appetite. This included cost-benefit modeling, emissions impact estimates, and financing strategies to support implementation.
Pioneering Transition Credits for Coal-to-Clean Energy Shifts: From 2023-25, our team provided core advisory support on the development and piloting of Transition Credits (TCs) ; a new class of high-integrity, high-quality carbon credits designed to accelerate the early retirement and repurposing of fossil fuel assets, particularly coal-fired power plants. This groundbreaking initiative marked the world’s first pilot of transition credits, creating a financing mechanism to channel upfront investment into renewable energy replacement capacity while ensuring environmental integrity and social safeguards. Our role included: 1. Methodology Development: Served as senior advisors in the design of a pioneering methodology to generate transition credits, ensuring consistency with international verification standards and credibility in global markets. 2. Policy & Regulatory Engagement: Facilitated extensive dialogues with government agencies and regulators across multiple jurisdictions to secure policy alignment, regulatory endorsement, and broader market acceptance of the transition credit mechanism. 3. Financial Structuring: Worked with international financial institutions to explore blended finance structures and risk-mitigation mechanisms to scale adoption of transition credits in coal-to-clean transactions. 4. Market Building & Buyer Engagement: Conducted investor education, capacity building, and targeted dialogues with sovereign entities and corporate actors across voluntary and compliance markets to ensure robust demand pathways. 5. Pipeline Expansion: Identified and supported additional pilot projects across Asia to build a pipeline of credible transition credit opportunities, thereby reinforcing long-term supply and scaling the ecosystem. Through this work, we contributed to establishing a credible ecosystem around transition credits, positioning them as a transformative tool for de-risking energy transition transactions and mobilizing capital at scale for coal-to-clean pathways in emerging markets.
